Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions

Each application for a Think Big Award (Award) must be consistent with the aims of the Think Big programme. Projects must not be for profit activities. Projects must involve a tangible improvement, aimed at inspiring the community. The full criteria are outlined on our website www.o2.co.uk/thinkbig

1. Think Big is funded and run by Telefónica UK Limited (“O2”, o2.co.uk) and the National Youth Agency (nya.org.uk). The programme is administered by Conservation Foundation Enterprises Ltd on behalf of the Conservation Foundation (conservationfoundation.co.uk) (together, the “Administrators”). All training in relation to the Think Big programme is provided by UK Youth (ukyouth.org). We also have a team of young advisors aged between 18 and 25– our Youth Advisor Team.

2. Only projects that take place within the UK are eligible for an Award.

3. The Think Big programme is aimed at benefiting and supporting young people’s projects that will involve a tangible improvement for their community or tackle a problem with society. Think Big projects must:

  • Involve people aged between 13 to 25 in the UK (view our Safeguarding Policy);
  • Help a community or address a social problem;
  • Begin within three months of being funded and completed within six months.

4. The following projects are not eligible for an Award:

  • projects with a religious affiliation, or that aim to convert people to a certain religion;
  • projects that benefit only one individual, or take place on private land;
  • projects with a political affiliation, or that promote a political individual, party, or organisation;
  • projects that aim to raise money for third party giving organisations;
  • school projects that do not benefit a defined community;
  • projects that could be dangerous for the participants
  • fetes and festivals that do not provide a tangible improve to a defined community; or
  • courses, workshops, and training for individuals.

5. Applicants under 18 years of age must have the written consent of a parent or guardian, or an endorsement from a charity or recognised community organisation.

6. Projects that involve children under 18 years of age or vulnerable people (e.g. the eldery or disabled) should have child protection policies in place, and evidence of up-to-date Criminal Records Bureau checks for all relevant people involved in the project.

7. All applicants will be asked to nominate a supporter who may be contacted during the application process to discuss the applicant and their project. Think Big Administrators may also visit the project or interview the applicant by telephone. The applicant must be willing to take part in this process, and where appropriate, make his or her project available for a visit by an assessor at a mutually agreed time.

8. Applicants are responsible to obtain any relevant planning permissions, insurance, first aid, supervision, or consents for their projects, if relevant.

9. Multiple applications by one applicant are permitted provided that they relate to substantially different projects. If an application is unsuccessful, the applicant may reapply with the same project two months after the initial application was declined. If unsuccessful for a second time, the applicant cannot reapply for an Award with the same project.

10. The Administrators aim to advise applicants within six weeks whether or not their application for an Award has been successful. Applicants will be contacted via the email address on their application. If, in a particular month, the Administrators are experiencing a particularly high volume and/or quality of applications some applications may be considered for an Award in the following month instead. If this occurs, the Administrators will advise the applicant.

11. Successful applicants may not reapply at the same level for different projects.

12. Awards are granted on the basis of the original application. If a project changes scope, any proposed changes must be approved by the Think Big Administrators.

13. At the first level of the Think Big programme, successful applicants will receive an Award of £300. At the second level, the applicant will receive up to £2,500. The amounts awarded may be subject to change during the course of the project. Any part of the Award that is unused once the project is completed must be returned to O2. The Award is not designed to provide top-up funding for larger projects; the funding must be used for the project that is approved.

14. Funding will be given to successful applicants by way of a pre-loaded money card. Think Big will do its most to ensure that successful applicants receive their funding within four weeks of being approved, but this timeframe cannot be guaranteed.

15. At the first level of the programme, successful applicants will also received a refurbished O2 mobile phone with £30 O2 mobile phone credit, a Think Big merchandise pack, their own Think Big project page (a “Cloud”), and the chance to win gig tickets and merchandise for the project group. At the second level of the programme, successful applicants will receive, free O2 Home Broadband for a year, up to £50 O2 mobile phone credit, a dedicated O2 mentor, the chance to win gig tickets and merchandise for the project group, and/or the opportunity to apply for an O2 apprenticeship.

16. At the first level of the programme, online tutorials are available to help applicants and awarded projects develop skills and knowledge in the areas of project management, risk, and finances. These tutorials are available for free on O2 Learn (o2learn.co.uk). There is no required training for successful applicants at the first level of the programme.

17. At the second level of the programme, all successful applicants are required to attend a three-day residential training with UK Youth. No Award elements (the funding, the O2 mentor, the broadband, etc.) will be given until the project founder has successfully completed the residential. If, during the residential, the project members do not fully participate, or act in a way that is inappropriate, Think Big reserves the right to expel them from the programme.

18. All successful applicants must create and use their Think Big Cloud. The Cloud is designed to provide projects with a forum to effectively publicise their work as well as communicate with O2 Helpers and other Think Big projects. Upon completing their project if any group or individual has not created and used their Cloud their project will be deemed to not meet Think Big completion criteria.

19. All successful applicants will be required to create five project steps that outline how the project will be completed successfully. These project steps must be posted on the Cloud in the appropriate place and then approved by the Administrators. Once approved, projects must check off the steps as they are completed. Only when the fifth step is checked off will Think Big consider the project completed.

20. All successful applicants must participate in an interview with the Administrators upon completion of the project. After this interview, the Administrators will determine whether the project has met the completion criteria. Not all projects that are completed will necessarily meet the Think Big criteria for completion.

21. Not every project group that completes the first level of the programme will be invited to apply for the second level. It is at the discretion of the Administrators who to invite to apply for the second level. Their decisions are final and feedback to the project is not required.

22. We would like to publicise Think Big projects. Submitting an application constitutes an applicant’s acceptance to having his or her project publicised. Applicants may be required to submit materials that can be used by Think Big for promotional purposes, including photos, testimonials, and/or videos. Any photos and videos posted on the Cloud may be used by Think Big for these promotional purposes without express consent of the project members.

All applicants may be required to submit materials that can be used by Think Big for promotional purposes, including photos, testimonials, and/or videos.

23. If the Administrators or O2 believe that any funds given by Think Big are being misused in any way, or that the project is being run for profit purposes then the Administrators or O2 reserve the right to withhold or reclaim all or part of the funding, and expel the project from the programme.

24. If, at any time, the Administrators or O2 consider that it is no longer appropriate to provide funding to a particular project for any reason, the Administrators or O2 reserve the right to discontinue funding for the project.

25. The Administrators and O2 accept no responsibility for applications that are lost, delayed, misdirected, incomplete, or cannot be delivered or entered for any technical or other reason. Proof of delivery is not proof of receipt.

26. The Administrators and O2 accept no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by applicants as a result of submitting an application or accepting an Award.

27. The Administrators and O2 disclaim liability for any injury or damage to the applicant’s or any other person's computer relating to, or resulting from, participating in, or downloading, any materials in connection with the Think Big programme.

28. The Administrators’ decisions on all matters relating to the Think Big programme will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

29. The Administrators and all participants in Think Big, including all successful applicants, must agree to, and abide by, the O2 Think Big Youth Programme: Safeguarding Young People and Child Protection Policy (or any other similar policy that Think Big puts in place).
