Youth Action is an independent community organisation working with young people aged 8 to 24 years old across Lancashire. Our specific areas of work are: •Action Focused - through recreational activities designed to bring together all communities in a fun and respectful way which brings about community cohesion and results in healthy living and enjoyment of life. •Continued Campaigning - through representing and developing youth leadership and civic citizenship by engagement in policy formulation and making accessible the jargon that gets in the way of meaningful involvement. •Skills Development - which means that the learning young people do is recognised and allows them to break out of economic dis-advantage, achieve more by way of accessing education, employment, training or enterprise or a mixture tailored to individual learning needs to enable everybody to achieve their potential and unique individual talents. BME, Young Offenders, Teen Parents, Young Carers We have a Youth Advisory Group that meets weekly and ALL key decisions are taken by them. Staff and volunteers support the young people, but the decision makers are young people. We listen to young people's views outside this process by continually developing our services through ongoing feedback and evaluation processes. Young People are also elected onto our Trustees Board and have a powerful voice! We have a robust Child Protection Policy and Processes. We absolutely put the safety and security of our young people into all our processes, planning and reviews. We provide a venue where young people come to which is safe, which is open so that they feel they can engage in projects etc where they will not be subjected to any negative environment, and can prosper. Our staff are absolutely great!!! Young people are involved in the short-listing, recruitment, appoitnment, appraisal and support to staff in a meaningful manner. Our staff are qualified to nationally recognised standards and we continually invest in training and support for staff and volunteers. We believe that any young person who comes into contact with us at Youth Action has to be able to develop, become self-sufficient at a rate comfortable with themselves and be able to go on to do other things. Each young person completes a Personal Development Plan with staff support where they set this out, and we then intensely work with the young person to implement this. We definately promote and celebrate young people's achievements at all levels, whether thats a small step that the young person has taken or where a group of young people have achieved some form of accredited learning. We have this promotion and celebration as one of our core principles. Our staff are of the highest standard and the young people really get on with them, turn to them when they need support and the staff continually aim to enable the young people to develop more. Our staff and volunteers are very multi-skilled and adept at using our resources to maximum advantage to the young people. Limited resources are never a barrier to young people's participation, learning and enjoyment at Youth Action. We definately promote and celebrate young people's achievements at all levels, whether thats a small step that the young person has taken or where a group of young people have achieved some form of accredited learning. We have this promotion and celebration as one of our core principles. We have an ongoing media campaign to promtoe positive news stories of young people learning and development, and we have regular information sessions where partner organisations can come together to learn more about this. Young people are on our Trustees Board, and this is senior leadership within our organisation. Our Youth Advisory Board, is a group of 20 young people from a wide range of backgrounds who have received leadership training and are now sharing this with other young people. We fully believe in genuine youth leadership.
